These
five images are part of a series of lithographs created in Germany during
1995 when Apichai was concentrating on simple triangular, square and circular
forms. They draw our minds to focus on the importance of the basics in life,
according to Buddhist philosophy.
Apichai
felt pressure in Germany; to learn the local language, to
be and do something valuable. As an artist, he wanted to be
his self and concentrate on his art. While walking to the
university workshop each day, Apichai began to build a new
appreciation for the soil and water mixing underfoot and incorporated
the concept into these 'dripping' images. He did not see these
materials as 'dirty', but as fundamental and spiritual elements.
